UHD Bilingual E-Library Hosts Community Family Center Summer Camp Students
This summer, the UHD Bilingual E-Library had the privilege of welcoming a group of energetic and curious kids and youth from the Community Family Center as part of their summer camp program. The visit was more than just a campus tour—it was a meaningful opportunity to connect students with the world of higher education, bilingual literacy, and community-based learning.
Hosted by the UHD Bilingual E-Library team, the day included a guided tour of the University of Houston-Downtown campus, highlighting key spaces that support student learning, reading development, and technology access. For many of the students, this was their first time stepping onto a university campus—an experience designed to spark curiosity, inspire academic dreams, and show that higher education is within reach for everyone.

Throughout the visit, students explored library spaces, interactive learning areas, and classrooms while engaging in conversations about reading, storytelling, and digital learning. The UHD Bilingual E-Library also introduced students to the concept of family-authored bilingual stories and how technology can help families share and preserve their voices in both English and Spanish. As part of the experience, youth participants learned how literacy and storytelling can empower entire communities and connect generations.
The event reflects the ongoing partnership between the UHD Bilingual E-Library and the Community Family Center—a collaboration built on shared values of equity, education, and cultural empowerment. Both institutions are deeply committed to uplifting underserved communities by promoting bilingual literacy, supporting educational access, and providing resources for families to thrive together.
The UHD Bilingual E-Library’s mission goes beyond traditional library services. By offering a bilingual digital platform, workshops, and community events, the E-Library creates spaces where families can write, read, and grow together. It also supports the development of digital literacy skills—ensuring that students and families not only have access to stories, but also to the tools they need to succeed in a digital world.

The UHD Bilingual E-Library extends its sincere thanks to the Community Family Center for its continued partnership and dedication to empowering local families. Together, we are building stronger futures—one story, one visit, and one student at a time.
